Brimming with self-confidence and packing more high quality songs than any band really deserve, Manchester quartet HANKyPARK are, at last, embarking upon an apparently relentless rise to the top. Fronted by ex-rugby player and one-time professional boxer James Davenport (aka, to most of the local music scene, Shinny) the band's name is directly lifted from an area of their beloved Salford, their music an unexpected blend of rock and sweet guitar riffing with almost tender balladeering thrown into the mix for good measure. Why unexpected? Well, according to Davenport himmself, "a lot of the music industry is scared of bands from Manchester, thinking they're gonna get another bunch of mouthy arseholes. We've got a sound of our own and we definitely don't sound like Oasis - there's a lot more to HANKyPARK than that." And he's right. From their 1998 inception and through several line-up changes (the singer and rhythm guitarist is currently abetted by bass player Mike Powell, drummer Matt Judd and, on lead guitar and backing vocals, Lewis Byrom, the band have consistently dumbfounded narrow-minded critics with thrilling live shows and an inherent ability to effortlessly blend musical styles.
